New York Music Festivals In 2010

Looking for a unique musical experience this summer? Be sure to check out the Rock Dog Music Festival on Saturday, July 11th, 2009. The Rock Dog Music Festival will take place at 9000 Cardwell in Livonia, Michigan (zip code 48150). KEN STRINGFELLOW: I don"t know if things were missing from other records, that"s a bit harsh, but I think we were just ready to prove some things and very inspired on this album. In short you need sport wristbands a group of staff members who are going to share your vision for your event. You will need an assistant or someone to deal with all the minor details while you"re proceeding at full steam, looking at the big picture. For a chance to participate in some good-old-fashioned fun, join the revelry at the Frontier Days Festival. Visitors can enjoy seeing the period clothing and eating period food. The festival also features a carnival, children"s games, and some very unique contests. No Frontier Day festival would be complete without a greased pig catch and nail-driving contest. There will also be several quilts for view, as well as a parade on Saturday. Off Broadway is one of the few St. Louis music venues that attracts indie rock and punk bands that are up and coming, but that aren"t completely obscure. A perfect example is the brand new psychedelic folk group Here We Go Magic, which played a beautiful set at Off Broadway a couple weeks ago. The band had stopped in St. Louis on it"s way to the festival wristbands, where they played a ton of shows that got pretty impressive reviews. And the gun slingin", whiskey guzzlin" indie rockers Murder By Death are scheduled to play at Off Broadway in May - it"s bound to be a more appropriate atmosphere than if the group performed at the Pageant to the tune of $5 Budweisers. Mickey"s very Merry Christmas Party is a great way for you and your family to have a unique experience in Walt Disney World while celebrating Christmas. The park is open only to those guests who purchase the party tickets. There is a bit of a jam entering the park since it is only open 7pm-12am, but you can enter as early as 4pm with your party tickets to avoid the rush. We received event wristbands upon entering the two times my family attended the party and then the entire Magic Kingdom is open for your enjoyment. If you are going for the rides then you will luck out because there is no wait for majority of the rides once the party begins depending on the date of your party. At any date, your wait should not exceed 15 minutes for any given ride. KEN STRINGFELLOW: I have to say, I"m more turned on by the sun, or peeling paint on an old tractor, or a beautiful smile than most bands...I try and look at life as a whole for my inspiration, and work from there. The rhyme does go into strange details about the horse, that most of it is made of hay or straw. Unless this is a metaphor for tangled hair it unlikely that this was a real horse, I should imagine... Maybe the rhyme came from a toy horse. The hay is described as "pounce" which I haven"t heard used as an adjective, and draw a blank.

Nearly 100 million people across country have chronic condition

China has nearly 100 million people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, placing the respiratory condition among the country"s biggest public health challenges, a national study has found.

Starting mid-2012, the three-year nationwide study covered nearly 51,000 participants 20 years or older. The findings were published recently in the international medical journal The Lancet.

The study found that 8.6 percent of participants had the disease, with the elderly and smokers at higher risk.

It was led by Wang Chen, a top respiratory disease expert and president of both the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College.

People with COPD are at increased risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer and a variety of other conditions. It killed more than 870,000 Chinese in 2016, roughly 9 percent of disease-related deaths, according to the National Health Commission.

"The study further alerts us to the severity of COPD, an underestimated health threat here, and one that is expected to rise further due to the heavy smoking epidemic and aging trend," Wang said on Wednesday.

According to the study, more than 40 percent of smokers over 60 have COPD.

Other risk factors include poor education, long-term exposure to air pollution, particularly PM2.5 (tiny hazardous airborne particles). Risk factors also include chronic coughing, ultralow body weight and a family history of respiratory disease, the study found.

But the study did not find a direct causal link between PM2.5 exposure and COPD, just correlation, said Yang Ting, a respiratory disease doctor at China-Japan Friendship Hospital, who participated in the study.

Wang called for more attention and grants by the government to support related research.

Moreover, public health efforts should be enhanced to better curb COPD, as public awareness remains low, he said.

Less than 10 percent of respondents had ever taken a pulmonary function test, a tool for COPD diagnosis, and at most 3 percent of the sufferers were aware of their condition, it found.

Wang suggested those who are susceptible, like smokers, be tested regularly for early detection and treatment.

He urged health authorities nationwide to devise public health programs like targeted screening methods and health education to promote public awareness and better control.
